Good fences take red clay seriously.

Drive through Madison, Harvest, or Meridianville and you'll see the same thing on street after street: brand-new rooftops and wide-open backyards. Builders here almost never include fencing, so every subdivision that goes up creates a wave of homeowners who need one — for the dog, for the kids, for the simple privacy of not sharing every cookout with four neighbors. That first-year fence is most of our work, and we've built the process around it: HOA paperwork handled where it applies, utility locates called in, and a crew that leaves the yard looking like nothing happened except a fence.

The rest of our week is the county's other reality — acreage. Out toward Hazel Green and Athens, fencing means pasture wire, board fence for horses, and gates a tractor fits through. Different materials, same rule: the posts decide everything.

Our red clay holds water in the spring, shrinks hard in a dry August, and pushes on posts through both. A post set eighteen inches deep in a bag of dry-pour will lean by year three — you've seen those fences. Ours go deeper, in properly mixed concrete crowned to shed water, with the wood itself rated for ground contact. It costs a little more per hole and it's why we're comfortable talking about decades. Termites are the other Alabama tax: any wood that meets soil is treated for it, and where a customer wants zero long-term worry, we'll point at vinyl or aluminum and show the math.
